Montana Rules and Regulations

Montana is one of many western states that have different regulations for different types of land areas and different types of gold prospecting.

It should be mentioned that you need to know who governs the area you plan to prospect on and you should contact that governing agency about applicable regulations prior to prospecting.

Here is a list of links to information and some of the different governing agencies in Montana regulating gold prospecting.

This is NOT an all inclusive list of information sources for the State of Montana.

(BLM) Bureau Of Land Management in Montana (Recreational Prospecting on Public Land)

Montana Department of Environmental Quality - Dredging Permit

Recreational Prospecting in the Montana National Forests of the Northern Region

Remember, it is your responsibility to read the information on each web site and understand all of its content before prospecting.
If you have a question that is not addressed in these web pages, contact the appropriate agency for clarification.

The Gold Hog Gold Prospecting Forum does not provide interpretation nor imply interpretation of any of these regulations.
