Question

How can you tell when it’s time to clean out the excavator?

Answer

It really depends on the rate you are feeding it and the type material you are processing. If you are running an exceptional amount of material (High Feed Rate) you may want to clean it out every hour or even sooner.
As long as your mats are actively exchanging lights for heavy material you should be fine. If you see gold collecting in the lower half of your sluice box matting, this may be an indication you need to do a cleanup. It may also be an indication that you have not set your Excavator up correctly.
Remember. Cleanup is an easy procedure. It only takes a couple of minutes. It doesn’t hurt to do a cleanup anytime choose. The more familiar you become with the Excavator, you’ll be able to decide when you need to do a cleanup.
Some people run thier Excavator for several hours before doing a cleanup.

Question

Can the Excavator be used as a concentrator?

Answer

Not in the true sense of what a concentrator is.
This unit is not designed to be used as a concentrator nor do we think it can run as one effectively.

Question

Can the Excavator be converted to a dredge?

Answer

Yes it can. We do not sell the items needed to convert the Excavator to a dredge. You can purchase all the items needed from just about any mining supply store on-line. It is not recommended to be converted above a 1-1/2” dredge. The large volume of water needed for a larger suction nozzle to work properly, will create too much water flow for the Excavator.
As a 1-1/2” dredge the Excavator does an excellent job. The 2.5 H.P. pump works very well with the 1-1/2” nozzle.
To convert the Excavator to a 1-1/2” dredge you will need the following items. The conversion parts may be ordered separately or in kit form from many mining equipment suppliers on-line.

1.5" Dredge Conversion Kit for 2.5 HP Systems

7620 - JOBE 1.5" x 1.25" Suction Nozzle - 1
6540 - JOBE 1.5" Dredge Adapter - 1
5943 - Dredge Pressure Hose 1.25" - 17'
5134 - Dredge Suction Hose 1.5" - 15'
5931 - 1.25" MPT to 1.25" Slip - Hose Connector for Suction Nozzle - 1
5932 - 1.5" MPT to 1.25 Slip - Hose Connector for Pump Discharge - 1
6651 - 1.25" Stainless Steel Hose Clamp - 2
6670 - 1.5" Stainless Steel Hose Clamp - 2

To see the Excavator being used as a 1-1/2” dredge for “Sniping” go to (9 minutes 52 seconds) on this video. (Use the time slide.)

Question

Can I use a longer nozzle pressure hose and nozzle discharge hose lengths than what is listed in the above kit.

Answer

It is not recommended to do so with the 2.5 H.P pump. The longer the nozzle pressure hose and nozzle discharge hose are, the less pressure and water volume you'll have supplied to the suction nozzle, thereby reducing its needed water volume and pressure to operate effectively.

If you are using a larger trash pump it is also possible. Just throttle down so you don't flood your sluice.

Question

“If I run 2 or 3 buckets of material through my Excavator and have to shut the pump down for some reason, when I start the pump back up will the sudden flow of water down the mats wash any material or gold away that’s in there?”

Answer

It’s always possible that gold will “move” when you shut down and restart.
However the nice thing about our mats is that the gold is deep in the grooves.
You’ll see lights being released a bit but very little if any gold will be lost.
It’s always best to gather dirt first, pile it up and then run,
shut down and do a cleanup. With the mini, cleanup takes about 4 minutes.

Question

Should the PVC pipe and fittings be glued once they are installed and lined up correctly or is it best to just ”Press Fit” them.

Answer

Some people glue them, others just leave them pressed in. We rough them up with sand paper prior to shipping them for a nice snug fit. If you are going to use the Excavator as a 1-1/2” dredge as well as a highbanker it wouldn’t be advisable to glue the PVC fittings.
