Dont get disappointed. Many mistake obsidian as chert or even coal. Chert can look exactly like obsidian and has a hardness close to it. It will "flake" to an edge as sharp as obsidian. I have several pieces of both and side by side its hard to tell the difference.

I see the folks at GoldHog put out a video today about all the clay in the new dirt at G&G. A good video that explains it all. They found lots of gems and so-so on the gold. I can't get over there this week (taking a faceting class at the Lapidary School) but I plan to be there next week.

I'll be taking my dredge there for the Labor Day Weekend Friday-Sunday. Anyone else going to be there?

I am going over there this afternoon. I missed last week due to school. I will take the stream sluice but because of the water levels, gemming will be my primary goal. We have not had a lot of rain in the area in the last few weeks, only "hit or miss" thunderstorms, and the creek levels are way down.
